Description

Kviteseid is a beautifully detailed jacket inspired by Norwegian Rosemaling (literally "rose painting") from the county of Telemark. One of the most famous artists of the Telemark Rosemaling style was Knut Mevastaul (1785-1862). He lived all his life in the village of Kviteseid in Telemark, hence the name.

Rosemaling is deeply rooted in Norwegian folk art. This ornamental, decorative painting style flourished in Norway from 1700-1900 AD and is known for its powerful yet sophisticated use of color. Typical decorative elements include lush roses (hence the name rose painting) surrounded by floral ornaments and ribbons in flowing patterns. The expression is lively, playful and often asymmetrical in style. Rose painting has traditionally been used to decorate everything from wooden beer trays and chests to entire rooms - cabinets, beds, doors, ceilings and walls included.

Our Kviteseid jacket is a beautiful and toned down interpretation of the Rosemaling style from Telemark. The nayv and dark green versions of this jacket have contrasting Rosemaling patterns. The black version is more subtle, with a tone-on-tone rosemaling pattern. If you want your Rosemaling jacket to be a little more expressive, check out Kviteseid's beautiful Rosemaling sister, the Kvinesdal jacket.

Fittingly, the Kviteseid jacket is made from 100% fine Norwegian wool. By selecting the finest wool from the very first shearing of the sheep, the fibers are short, giving us a finer and softer yarn. The result is thin, lightweight and soft garments, while maintaining the luster, crimp and durability for which Norwegian wool is known worldwide. For added comfort, the neck is lined with soft merino wool.

Norwegian wool is one of the most animal-friendly textile fibers in the world. Our wool comes from the "dalasau" ("valley sheep"), known to roam freely on the vast Norwegian slopes and graze on natural pastures. A revolutionary new wool treatment with natural, non-toxic salts makes this jacket soft and machine washable.

Your Dale cardigan is unique because of Dale of Norway's long experience and rich Scandinavian history. With a lot of love and care the detailed Norwegian sweaters and cardigans are made. In the process, all steps are carried out in the factory in the small town of Dale in the beautiful fjord landscape of western Norway - and that already since 1879. The result is a quality that is second to none.
In addition, great importance is attached to the use of environmentally friendly materials and processes, as the Norwegians are closely connected with nature. The energy of the small factory comes from the surrounding waterfalls in the valley. The sweaters are made from 100% Norwegian wool or merino wool (see product info below) and only Ökotex 100 certified yarns are used. Despite the traditional production, the company focuses on modern patterns and cuts and thus manages to give the classic Norwegian sweater a modern design.
It is not for nothing that genuine Norwegian sweaters are currently one of the biggest fashion trends. You will get a great cardigan from Norway that will keep you warm and retain its positive properties for a lifetime.
