Like any experienced driver we check our rearview mirror every now and then. Occasionally we dive head-first into our fantastically rich archive (abundant with some jaw-dropping and even corny designs!). Every time we resurface a little wiser and a lot happier. One of our deep dives inspired us to make this fantastic big pattern sweater, a simultaneously fresh and retro piece of garment.
And by “retro” we mean beautiful design with true heritage. The classic Norwegian eight-petal rose, the cross known from the Setesdal and Cortina pattern, the lice pattern, 100% wool. It’s all in there: Elements so classic and solid you wouldn’t believe it could merge into something new, something that feels so tantalizingly fresh. But then there is innovation, creativity. Seeing things in a different light. Facilitating the transformation from historical qualities to new tactility and esthetics. Like composing new music on old piano keys.
There is a note of both the 50s and the 60s in this sweater’s straight and short silhouette. The design elements are amplified, the colors are bold. The Vilja sweater is loud-and-proud.
“Vilja” is a Nordic feminine given name meaning both “richness” and “grain”, but also “will”. The will to see things afresh. The will to pass on the very best of our own, and thus Norwegian, design history.
